The Many Different Ways To Eat a Slice of Pizza

The Many Different Ways to Eat a Slice of Pizza

There are endless ways to eat pizza. It’s one of those dishes that lets you be as creative or as simple as you please, and the eating technique you choose says a lot about who you are as a person.

1. The Classic

The Classic pizza eater doesn’t mess around when they eat. It doesn’t matter whether they pile on the toppings or they keep it simple — they grab the slice by the crust and dig in. And they always enjoy the experience.

If you use the Classic method, you’re a no-nonsense kind of person. You know what works, and you stick to it. You probably also love classic movies, which you enjoy with a hot slice of pizza and a tall glass of your favorite beverage.

2. The Folder

The Folder neatly folds each slice in half portfolio-style, with the cheese on the inside and the crust on the outside. It gives you a firm place to hold onto the slice, and it’s easy to bite into.

Fans of this pizza-eating method claim the following:

  • It keeps the toppings safe
  • It’s quick and efficient
  • You keep your hands clean

If you’re a Folder, you’re all about organization. You probably color-code your schedule, and you always put things away when you’re done with them. Truly an admirable trait.

3. The Inside-Out

The Inside-Out method is controversial and for good reason. Similar to the Folder, you fold your slice in half. However, you do things a little differently. You keep the cheese on the outside and the crust on the inside so the hot cheese hits your tongue first. You don’t usually order toppings, but when you do, you pick them off first to keep them from sliding off.

If you eat your pizza like this, you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty — literally. You don’t let a little mess get in your way. You also probably get confused stares from everyone else in the room, but a little judgment doesn’t stop you.

4. The Short Stack

Remember that iconic scene in Saturday Night Fever where Tony Manero orders two slices of pizza and eats them stacked on top of each other as he walks down the street? We sure do. And we think it’s revolutionary.

Stacking your slices lets you enjoy your pizza without taking up too much time or space. You can easily eat your pizza while talking on the phone, walking down the street or

If you like eating double-decker style, you’re all about efficiency — which makes sense, given that your schedule is probably packed. Make sure to pencil in some time to treat yourself to some fresh pizza every so often. You deserve it!

5. The Picker

The Picker plucks the toppings off their pizza before digging in. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a picky eater — they’ve just turned pizza eating into a science. Removing the toppings gives them the freedom and control they crave, and their worldview is often apparent from the order in which they eat each piece:

  • Toppings first: If you eat your toppings first, you’re a highly detail-oriented person. You plan everything out in advance because you want to make sure it goes well, which makes you a great person to have on long road trips.
  • Toppings last: If you save the toppings for last, you’re a “big picture” person. You get straight to business and leave the little details for later, and you probably have an overarching plan for the next five years.

Whichever order you usually choose, you tend to be particular about your topping combos. You like your pizza a certain way, and that’s totally cool by us.

6. The Slicer

In Italy, pizza doesn’t come by the slice. You order a whole pie and cut your own slices, which you eat with a knife and fork. Many people here in the U.S. like to do the same thing with regular and deep-dish pizzas.

Not only does this technique help you connect with the dish’s roots, it also keeps your hands clean and gives you maximum control. It also lends an upscale air to the meal, transforming even the most basic slice of cheese pizza into a gourmet masterpiece.

If this sounds like you, you’re probably a traditionalist. You remember what your parents taught you about manners, and you do your best to make them proud. And when it comes to pizza, there’s nothing wrong with that.

7. The Artist

The standard triangular slice just doesn’t cut it for the Artist. Maybe you wrap your slice into a pizza cone, or maybe you like to arrange your toppings into a picture. Whatever you do, you like each slice to be a unique experience.

You’re a creative individual who likes doing things your own way. While it might look a little unconventional to others, you don’t care — you’re having a great time.

8. The Dipper

The Dipper has to dunk each bite into a dipping sauce

No matter how many toppings they order, the Dipper isn’t satisfied with just a slice of pizza by itself. The Dipper has to dunk each bite into a dipping sauce to get as much flavor out of the experience as possible. And with so many options, the possibilities truly are endless:

  • Ranch dressing
  • Garlic butter
  • BBQ sauce
  • Blue cheese
  • Buffalo sauce
  • Extra marinara
  • Mayonnaise

If this sounds like you, you love trying new things. You take any opportunity you can get to break out of your comfort zone, which has probably taken you to some interesting places. Keep being adventurous — your curious spirit is a great thing!

9. The Shaker

Like the Dipper, you and your tastebuds are always looking for your next culinary thrill. But instead of dipping, you shake your favorite herbs and spices on your slice to transform its original flavor.

Shakers are usually positive thinkers who live by the saying, “Change your latitude, change your attitude.” Rather than letting tough times get them down, they take charge and focus on what they can change about the situation. Whether it’s sprinkling some red pepper flakes on their pizza or shaking up their work routine, the Shaker embraces new challenges.

10. The Blotter

Before sinking their teeth into the soft dough and gooey cheese, The Blotter gently dabs their slice with a napkin or paper towel to remove some of the grease.

If you’re a Blotter, you’re health-conscious and disciplined. You probably love nutritious toppings like veggies and lean proteins, and you’re always trying to add balance to your meals. We respect that.
